A CHESHIRE nursery school celebrated a special birthday by helping others.

A midsummer ball at Ashton House Nursery raised £5,300 for Hope House Hospice.

The nursery, in Ashton Hayes, celebrated its 20th birthday with the charity event, which was attended by 300 people.

The ball was held in a marquee in the grounds of the nursery and included an auction, raffle, meal and live band, followed by a disco.

Ashton House opened on August 1, 1988, with only one child. There are now more than 230 children on roll, aged six weeks to four years. The nursery runs after-school and holiday clubs for children aged four to 11.

Hope House cares for children from birth to 19 in hospices in Oswestry and Conwy.

The money raised at the ball will help toward the Playtime Appeal which is raising money to renovate a play area.

At the time of going to print, the hospice is £20,000 off its £150,000 target.
