The people of Northwich will pull out all the stops for the homecoming parade of the town’s most successful Olympic export on Saturday, October 1.

Rower Matt Langridge – who already bagged silver and bronze medals at the Beijing and London games – completed his Olympic medal collection by claiming gold with the men’s coxed eight in Rio last month.

Now Northwich Town Council has revealed an open top bus tour will proudly ferry 33-year-old Matt through the town to welcome him home and celebrate his impressive achievement.

Great Britain's Scott Durant, Tom Ransley, Matt Gotrel, Paul Bennett, Matt Langridge, William Satch, cox Phelan Hill, Andrew Triggs Hodge and Pete Reed celebrate with their medals

A former pupil of Hartford High School and St Nicholas Catholic High School, Matt learnt his sport at Northwich Rowing Club.

Cllr Sam Naylor told the Chronicle it promises to be a ‘special’ day for the town.

“It is a once in a generation thing for Northwich,” he said.

“We have never produced anything like him in Northwich before and probably won’t again for a couple of generations.

“We want it to be a really special day so people say in 10 or 20 years’ time ‘I was there and it was great’.

“We are hoping lots of people turn out for it.”

The parade will begin at noon in Verdin Park.
