Police have confirmed that a male driver was killed in a three-vehicle crash on the outskirts of Northwich .
Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision which happened about 12.35pm today (Monday, December 14) on the A530 King Street, Whatcroft, near Northwich.
The incident, which happened at the junction of Davenham Road, Crowder’s Lane and King Street, involved a silver Vauxhall Corsa, a white HGV and a silver Vauxhall Astra.
Sadly, the 59-year-old driver of the Corsa, a local man from near Northwich, was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the HGV, a 27-year-old-man from Connah’s Quay in North Wales, was been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
Cheshire Roads Policing team is appealing for witnesses.
Sergeant Rachel Gallagher said: “I’d like to speak to anyone who was in the local area at the time of this incident and believes that they may have any information that could assist our enquiries.
“I’m particularly keen to speak to the driver of a white transit style van, travelling from Middlewich towards Northwich, which was seen to turn into Crowder’s Lane shortly before the collision.”
North West Ambulance Service sent an ambulance, a rapid response car and advanced paramedic to the scene. One patient was treated for minor injuries. Fire crews from Northwich and Middlewich also attended.
The collision led police to close the A530 in both directions from Croxton Lane, Middlewich, to the A556 Gadbrook Roundabout, Northwich, but this is now fully reopened.
