JULY will be a month full of fun in the Northgate Quarter.

The quarter series of festivals for 2013 continues with themed Sundays every week in July.

It all starts on July 7 with Choirs. There will be more than a dozen choirs filling the quarter with harmonies including A Handbag of Harmonies, Decibellas, Chester Mystery Plays Choir and many more.

Musical director Matt Baker said: “These are all wonderful choirs and the day will open and close with all of the choirs singing together and in between their individual programmes will include the Mystery Plays Choir singing their repertoire outside the Cathedral for the first time.”

July 14 sees the quarter stepping into its rich history and culture with Past Times. There will be Vikings and Cavaliers encamped on Abbey Green.

Workshops, from 10am, include shield painting, military drills, weaving and rune writing.

History projects include a Northgate History Swap Shop to trade your Northgate History Stories.

There will even be a vintage fire engine on the street, and themed music.

Get creative on July 21 with Big Art & Ukuleles, where there will various art installations and projects you can get involved with.

There will also be architecture projects to join in such as design a fantasy building or build a cardboard building with architects on hand to help.

There will be more than 100 ukulele players – a new Chester record – to entertain.

The last Sunday in July is Village Green with The Lord Mayor’s Pageant on July 28, where the pageantry will include a maypole, morris dancers, side shows, vaudeville and more to be announced.

At all events the road will be closed to traffic to fill Northgate Street with alfresco food and drink and a street market.

Festival Sundays start at noon (July 14 starts at 10am with children’s workshops).
