RURAL constables are stepping up their efforts to catch law breaking motorists.

As part of the seasonal initiative village bobbies will be tackling traffic offences and anti-social behaviour.

Teams of officers are regularly taking to the road on the lookout for drivers under the influence of drink and drugs, uninsured drivers and speeding motorists.

Malpas, Clutton, Beeston and Tarporley are among the communities already targeted.

And over the coming weeks, police will continue to target irresponsible road users who put both their safety and that of others at risk. Speed guns, high-visibility foot patrols and marked police car patrols are all being used to detect offenders.

During a recent shift, 17 vehicles were stopped and searched, five drivers received fines for minor offences, three drivers were found to have no tax and 13 breath tests were conducted although all of them were negative.
