BEING 16 and homeless is a scenario which affects a number of teenagers in the Cheshire West area every evening.

Forum Housing Association’s Nightstop Cheshire Project, funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council, is a scheme designed to give young homeless people the opportunity to experience an evening in a normal, nurturing home environment.

And the project is looking to recruit more volunteers and drivers to get involved and help reduce the number of young people on the streets.

Claire Litherland, Nightstop Project manager, said: “Volunteer hosts give their spare rooms to a young person between the ages of 16 and 25 for between one and three nights. Statistics show most young people return to families or friends following a stay at a host’s home.

“But it’s not just about giving - many volunteer hosts already in the scheme have benefited from having a young person in their house, be it to help with the gardening, being cooked for or help with fixing appliances.”
