NEWTON Primary School pupils are aiming to get fit and help the environment with the help of new cycling facilities.

The initiative was put forward by pupils of the school.

Headteacher Mark Griffiths said: “The student council from last year requested that more cycle stands were provided to encourage children to cycle or scooter to and from school.

“As a healthy school, we have accommodated that request and, with the opening of a new cycle path, the cycle and scooter racks are proving to be very popular.

Mr Griffiths hopes this year’s council will come up with even more ideas to improve the school.

“All of the councillors are new to their roles this year and the student council has many ideas for the year ahead,” he said.
