VISITORS arriving at Chester Railway Station will have noticed a number of smiling faces as a team of welcome envoys stepped out to offer them a guiding hand.

The envoys are a part of Visit Chester & Cheshire’s efforts to improve the visitor welcome across the city and into the county, having recently opened a visitor information centre at Cheshire Oaks, and re-opened a revitalised information centre in the Town Hall in Chester.

The four envoys have been employed under the Future Jobs scheme, in a project supported by the PSL Group who seek to identify new ways for people to increase their employment prospects.

Sue Foster, Visit Chester & Cheshire’s welcome manager, said: “It’s been excellent seeing how effective our new envoys have been; directing people into the city centre and across to Chester Zoo, and answering the most simple questions, through to the most complex, including historical questions about the city.”

Sue add: “The team, who wear branded ‘How Can I Help’ uniforms are also helping us to better understand a crucial element of the customer journey which should help us improve our relationships with partners such as Virgin Trains, Arriva Trains North Wales and accommodation providers.”

Fiona Bassett, project manager for PSL Group, who are funding partners for this scheme said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Visit Chester & Cheshire to deliver this key project supporting the visitor economy in Chester.”

The information centres and envoys are part of a wider scheme, which involves Sue working with many third parties such as the Hackney Cab organisations, to improve the provision of welcome across the county.
