THE search is on for volunteers to help run Tarporley’s new youth club.

The club which will be called Tarporley’s Crown Youth Club (TCYC) has been set up by village PCSO Emily Benson, Tarporley Parish Council and Pat and Carl Cardus, landlords of The Crown Hotel in the village.

The initial idea for the club was set out in the village parish plan and parish councillor Jeremy Mills and PCSO Benson have decided to turn the idea into a reality.

They recruited the help of Tarporley High School pupils to tell them what the pupils would want in a youth club. Now a number of Year 8 pupils from the school have formed a management committee to help run the TCYC.

Cllr Mills said: “We want this to be the children’s club, we want them to run it, just with guidance and management from the adults.”

The club will be based in the pool room at the Crown – which on club nights will be alcohol free.

Pat said: “We both grew up in the village and there was very little for us to do. So that is why we want to set this up, to give the children somewhere to go and have fun.”

Activities at the club would include computer games, film nights, sports and other activities. Pat said they want to run regular trips to the Boneyard skate park, and hope to invite beauticians for a special beauty nights, members of Tarporley Vics for a kick around and even a golf expert to allow the children to learn how to putt and swing.

PCSO Benson said she would have supporting role in the club.

The organisers are now looking for volunteers to help run the Wednesday night club, by either joining the management committee, supervising the trips, or even running an activity for the club. Anyone interested should contact Cllr Mills on 01829730898 or visit The Crown Hotel.
