A NEW song has been written to celebrate the 800th year of Frodsham achieving borough status.

The Frodsham and District Choral Society will sing , at a concert at St Laurence’s Church on Saturday November 14 at 7.30pm.

The song was written by Chester composer Matt Baker with words by former Cheshire Poet Laureate Andrew Rudd.

The words for the song are inspired by historical documents of the time when Sir Ranulph de Blunville, a Norman earl, established a borough at Frodsham, allowing citizens to rent burgage plots.

The surname Burgess means someone who was given a 'burgage' plot, an acre of land which was to be found along what is now Main Street and Church Street.

The choir will also sing Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum and Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise with four soloists from the Royal Northern College of Music.

Tickets cost £8 and £6 and may be purchased from Frodsham Frames or Nikki Hankey on 01928 718246.
