A REDEVELOPMENT of Wistaston Sports Ground is nearing completion thanks to a new tractor formally handed over by Crewe Alex boss Dario Gradi.

Work has been undertaken to improve drainage, and allow more games to be played on the grass with an improved surface quality.

A £20,000 grant from the Football Foundation has gone a long way to funding the work, and the £9,500 purchase of the new John Deere tractor is a key part of the scheme

Wistaston's Sport Ground spokesman Eric Swan said: 'In recent years we have needed to improve ground maintenance and enhance the surface treatment.

'It was vital that the tractor was bought, and we hope to purchase a spiker and mower in the near future.'

The committee has worked closely with groundsmen at Crewe Alex and manager Dario took time out to present Eric the key to the tractor.
