MARGARET Ollerenshaw has been elected chairman of Cheshire Police Authority.

And Ellesmere Port councillor Derek Bateman has been named vice chairman of the committee, which oversees policies for and the work of Cheshire police.

Mrs Ollerenshaw, an authority member for 14 years and a JP, said: “I am looking forward to the challenges that this year will bring and to continue to improve the delivery of policing to the people of Cheshire.”

Cllr Bateman said: “My aim is to continue to work in partnership with local agencies to develop policing to improve the quality of life of people living and working in Cheshire and to help them to feel safe.”

Mrs Ollerenshaw was previously vice chairman of the committee.

Savings initiative

A SAVING station has been opened in Frodsham.

Cheshire Neighbour’s – a non-profit-making community enterprise – has opened a new collection point with the help of the Frodsham Children’s Centre, Ship Street.

The collection point will be open every Tuesday from 9am-1pm then 2-4pm.

Jackie Lewis said: “We are encouraging people to save safely for Christmas with a special Christmas account and also to avoid using doorstep lenders for loans that charge very high interest rates. But to stop and thing that there is an alternative.”

MP drop-in surgery

WEAVER Vale MP Mike Hall will be pleased to hold a drop-in surgery on Friday, April 17, at Helsby Community Centre, 4.45-5.15pm; Frodsham Community Centre, 5.30-6.15pm; Owleywood Club, Barrymore Road, Weaverham, 6.30-7pm.
