Bishops’ Blue Coat CE High School have welcomed a headteacher with a ‘wealth of experience’.

Ian Wilson said he was ‘delighted’ to take over the reins at the Great Boughton academy on January 1.

He replaces former head Justin Blakebrough, who left in the summer at the end of the last school year. Deputy headteacher Peter Coates had been acting as interim head.

Mr Wilson said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role.

“Bishops’ is a lovely school with a warm and welcoming feel and a strong, positive, Christian ethos.

“I look forward to working with students and their families and leading the school to the next stage in its development.

“There is a well-qualified, committed staff and everybody has made me very welcome.”

History teacher

Married and a father-of-two, Mr Wilson was previously at Sale Grammar School for more than 12 years after starting out as a history teacher in Wolverhampton.

He is currently a member of the national Senior Advisor Board for promoting core mathematics learning.

Mr Wilson’s family are active in their local church and he is also a cricket coach in his spare time.

A school statement said Mr Wilson ‘brings a wealth of experience from work at schools in different contexts’.

Time will tell if the new man has a similar musical talent to his predecessor, who famously starred in homemade music videos for Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk and Pharrell Williams’s Happy in honour of Year 11 students.
