BLACON High School will be welcoming a new head teacher in September.

Mark Edwards, who is currently head teacher at Rhyl High School, is originally from Blacon but left the area when he was seven years old.

He will be taking over from departing head teacher Ella Brett at the beginning of the new term.

Mark, who now lives in Trefnant near Denbigh, is looking forward to returning to his roots and starting his new role.

He said: “I grew up in Hillside Road, so when the position became available I didn’t hesitate to apply!

“I’ve been able to spend some time here, getting to know the staff and students, and everyone has given me a really warm welcome.”

Mark has taught in some of the most deprived areas in the country, including five years in a Leeds high school, where he oversaw a £30m regeneration programme.

“Being a National Challenge school will give us the opportunity to progress,” he added “I have a very capable senior team and I am sure we can achieve so much in the future.”
