A SUPPORT centre for people suffering with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and ME has celebrated the opening of its new facilities, and £10,000 in new funding from a charity raffle.

Lord Wade of Chorlton officially opened the new Tim Cotton Suite at the MS Support Centre in Saltney. More than 100 VIPs attended the opening, along with Stephen Mosley, MP for Chester.

During his opening speech Lord Wade congratulated the MS Support Centre on being a ‘centre of excellence’ and wished it ‘many years of continued success’.

Mr Mosley added he would ‘continue to support the sterling work that the MS Support Centre does for the local community’.

The extension has been named in honour of Tim Cotton, a member of MS Support Centre staff who passed away after a sudden and short illness in June this year.

The MS Support Centre provides help and advice for people with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and ME in Cheshire, North Wales and Wirral.

It provides practical support, therapies and helpful strategies that enable members to manage their symptoms in a positive way.

The former Lord Mayor of Chester, Neil Ritchie, also drew a fundraising raffle in which the two main winners were Sue Rothwell and Jane Drelincourt.

Each of the winners took away a large flat-screen television, donated by CurrysPC World.

Jane Johnston-Cree, centre manager and senior physio, said: “The MS Support Centre would like to thank Humphreys of Chester, Currys PC World and i7 Technologies Ltd, for their generosity in providing the prizes and of course all the residents of Chester, North Wales and the Wirral who bought the tickets for their support in raising the cash.”

In total, the MS Support Centre’s Next Step Campaign raffle raised £10,000, and the money will be used to provide more services and to support more people with neurological conditions.
