Investigation work on Grosvenor Road in Chester as part of United Utilities' plan to build a new £7m water pipeline has caused a build up of traffic near Overleigh roundabout today (Sunday, January 31).

Work began on January 17 and United Utilities initially stated that work would only take place overnight.

A spokesperson from United Utilities said: "We are working closely with the local authority and agreed to carry out some work at off peak times when traffic flows are reduced.

"We would like to apologies to motorists for any delays."

Traffic on Hough Green was backing up due to the lane reduction to accommodate the works

The work is expected to take between three and four weeks to complete.

The pipe was installed 30 years ago and the work is being done to support this original pipe with a new one.

The main project is likely to start in April and will take around a year to complete.

There are no further plans for investigation works on Grosvenor Road on forthcoming Sundays. There are traffic lights at Eaton Road in Handbridge this week (February 1-5) for scheduled investigations to take place.
