THE baby son of Crewe Alex hero Steve Jones needs his dad more than ever after another setback in his fight against illness.

Baby Milo was rushed back to Leighton Hospital on Sunday after suffering convulsions and fits at the family's home in Wistaston.

The brave tot was born prematurely at just 24 weeks, 11 months ago, and has suffered a number of health problems which have seen him in and out of hospital for the past year.

Steve, 28, said: 'Milo has a bacterial infection so he is back in hospital but we're hoping to have him out as soon as possible.

'He is being well looked after and is being given oxygen and antibiotics.'

It is the latest in a long line of difficulties that Milo has had to endure, ranging from heart complications and feeding difficulties to bronchitis, septicaemia and defective eyesight.

The youngster depends on a life-support machine to treat his chronic lung disease after he was born weighing only 1lb 6oz.

After the Alex's miraculous escape from relegation 10 days ago, the players are now back in training at Reaseheath, but scoring star Steve says the rest of his time will be spent with his recovering son.

He said: 'I'm training Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays this summer but I'll be going straight from Reaseheath to Leighton to see my lad this week. His health is the most important thing to me.'

Steve is hoping to make a donation to Ward 17 at Leighton Hospital where medical staff have cared for his son.

Alex supporters have so far showed their generosity by contributing £1,500 to the cause and Steve and his wife Lisa hope to raise even more.

Crewe Alex spokesman Rob Wilson said: 'It has been such a tough year for Steve, and all of our supporters are behind Milo and hope he recovers well.

'We wish him all the best, he is battling on and has done very well.'
