A COUNCILLOR raised green issues when consent was sought for illuminated signage at a prominent town pub.

The Hinderton Arms on Chester High Road, Neston is next to a crossroads in the Green Belt, planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council pointed out.

Applicant The Punch Pub Co said it was seeking approval for a total of eight signs, six of which would be illuminated, and a lantern.

No objections were raised by Neston Town Council or by the highway authority or neighbours who were consulted.

Neston and Parkgate borough councillor Kay Loch (Con) felt the number of illuminated signs “seems a bit too much”.

She believed the council should be encouraging reductions in carbon footprints.

The majority of the signage would be replacement, planning officers commented.

They did not believe the additional signs would lead to an over proliferation and argued the signage would relate well to its purpose and the character of the area.

It would not detract from visual amenity and would maintain the openness of that part of the Green Belt.

The application was recommended for approval on the basis of the signage would pay sufficient regard to the general characteristics of the area and would not detract.

The council agreed the pub company could have consent.
