Neston High School’s dedicated Reading Champions visited Year 6 pupils of Neston Primary to help encourage them to read and write for pleasure.

The Reading Champions are Year 9 and 10 boys who act as reading role models to younger students at Neston High.

Harry Mates, Kevin Exell, Angus Seal, Oliver Thomas, Joshua Mason, Benjamin Mason, Andrew Halfhead and Jay Harvey are now on a mission to extend this role to younger pupils in the local community and so far this is going incredibly well.

The boys presented an extended assembly based on the importance of reading to all of Neston Primary School’s Year 6 pupils which was followed by a literacy workshop in which the boys demonstrated strategies for choosing the right reading books and writing a story.

Neston High School’s librarian Suzie Evans and English teacher Laura Jolley are extremely proud of what the boys have achieved.

Laura said: “It is a pleasure to work with our Reading Champions and to see younger pupils become really engaged with reading as a result of working with the boys.

“Due to the success of today’s visit we look forward to visiting Neston Primary School again with the Reading Champions in September.”
