ASPIRING music artists who have teamed up to record a Christmas charity single have kicked off their promotional tour in Chester.

Unsigned singers and bands from across the UK came together for the venture, dubbed Project Underdog, to record a cover of Linkin Park’s Iridescent to raise money for families and communities affected by the UK riots earlier this year.

As the brainchild of Flintshire-based music company, Inscreen Ltd, whose chief executive Jo Lloyd, is the daughter of Secret Millionaire property tycoon Rob Lloyd, Project Underdog has even gained the support of A-list superstars.

Hollywood celebrities including Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks have re-tweeted news of the single’s launch on Twitter and following on Facebook has been equally as impressive.

And though the single, which is being backed by Universal Music and will be accompanied by a music video featuring all the collaborating artists, is aiming to make the elusive Christmas number one spot, its ultimate aim is to generate enough money to help people get their lives back on track after the devastating riots.

Leni White, one of the singers involved in Project Underdog, lost her home in the London riots, so the experience has been a poignant one.

She said: “My flat took the ultimate sacrifice during the protests. It was burnt down and I lost everything.

“My life fell apart before my eyes. I remember turning to a neighbour and telling them I just didn’t know what was going to happen next. It was a very dark time.”

Miss Lloyd, who is hoping to sign some of the singers permanently, said the lyrics of Iridescent were ‘very relevant’ to the events of last summer.

The song includes the lines ‘When you were standing in the wake of devastation/When you were waiting on the edge of the unknown/With the cataclysm raining down/Insides crying, Save me now’.

The 21-year-old added: “We were all shocked by the riot scenes on TV and because it was so recent, it is appropriate.

“It is great to start the launch of this in Chester and we are all really excited.”
