A community whose Scout Hut was destroyed by a blaze has rallied to raise funds for a replacement building.
Saughall Scout Hut – also called Uniform Group Headquarters – on Fiddlers Lane was gutted after an electrical fire broke out on January 30 during a meeting of the Friday Club.
Auctions and pancake races have been held to fundraise for temporary accommodation for the many groups which have been left without a base.
A live music event at the Vernon Institute on March 6 raised around £850.
Performers gave their time for free and around 20 local residents volunteered to run the bar, serve food and sell raffle tickets.
The event was organised by Steve Wales and Kathy Ford.
Kathy said: “Once word had started to spread about the event we were delighted at the speed local residents jumped on board and gave their time to help run the event.
“The loss of this facility is devastating as community facilities are at the heart of all communities.”
Alan Bailey, from the Saughall Uniform Groups Committee, added: “It was fantastic to see the community coming together at such short notice to raise funds for the Scout Hut.
“It was also pleasing to see people there who were with me when we originally raised £87,000 to build the HQ building back in 1998. Thank you to everyone.”
