PART of a busy Northwich road will be closed today (Wednesday) as a murder trial jury visit the scene of a fatal collision.

The A556 will be shut for an hour when the jury of 12 men and women are taken to the scene of an accident in which 37-year-old Rudheath man David Parsonage (pictured) died last July.

John Gareth Stubbs, of Royle Street, Northwich, has been charged with murder and death by dangerous driving following the smash. Stubbs, who is 25, denies both charges.

After the visit, eye witnesses and experts in road traffic accidents are due to be called throughout the week-long trial, which started at Chester Crown Court yesterday.

Prosecutor Michael Chambers QC told the court: 'The course of driving and behaviour of the defendant in his van very clearly indicates that he was at the least intent on causing some very serious harm to the deceased.

'Tragically, he succeeded in doing that.'

Mr Chambers went on to describe how Stubbs entered into a 'campaign of threats and harassment' towards Mr Parsonage and his family in the weeks before the incident.

A rumour that Stubbs was responsible for the theft of a motorbike he had earlier sold to Mr Parsonage had sparked a bitter feud between the pair.

Mr Parsonage left partner of 20 years Mrs Parsonage and a 16-year-old son.

Speaking at the time of his death Amanda Parsonage said: 'David was a loving father. He worked in a scrap yards and enjoyed working on and repairing cars and motorcycles.

'He was a popular man and had many friends.'

The trial will last seven days.
