A man has been charged with murder following the death of a Winsford man in Preston.

Steve Whitney, who also lived in Weaverham for 10-15 years, has been named locally as the victim who was found with stab wounds at a house on Fishwick Parade, Preston by Lancashire police officers shortly after 6am on Sunday (December 20).

He died in the Royal Preston Hospital shortly afterwards.

A 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and has now been charged.

Lancashire police confirmed that Hugh Cushnaghan, of Montgomery Street in Irvine, Scotland, will appear before Preston Magistrates today (Tuesday December 22) charged with murder.

Meanwhile, tributes have been paid on social media to Mr Whitney, who is believed to have had two children still living in Cheshire.
