A BUSINESSWOMAN has spoken of her delight as her son got the all-clear from kidney cancer.

Pippa Miln, of Manley Lane, Manley, put her career on hold when Sam, five, was diagnosed with the illness last November.

She said: “I never thought anything else would ever matter again.

“We stopped everything and concentrated on Sam and his treatment.

“It was terrifying, really bad.”

Ashton Hayes Primary School pupil Sam was treated at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. He had to have his kidney removed and undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Pippa said: “He did feel very unwell after treatment, but the doctors were very surprised at how well he did.

“He actually was in school 80% of the days during the term. So he did extremely well.”

Six weeks ago Sam got the all-clear.

“The day he was cleared was a good day – we had lots of champagne,” added Pippa.

Now her family’s ordeal is over, Pippa has realised that anything is possible – and is putting all her energy into her culinary career.

She has been invited to appear on Sky’s Good Food Show to showcase her salad dressing – ‘The Dressing’.

Pippa said: “It all started with a family recipe, a salad dressing that my husband used to have when he was younger, that his mum used to make.

“She was a fantastic cook and over the years we have tried to copy some of the recipes she did. The dressing was different though, something really quite unique and not like anything you could buy.”

Pippa and her husband Andy used to make the dressing for barbecues and friends and family often asked her whether they had ever thought about selling it.

Pippa added: “So inevitably over time we got to thinking and decided we would test it out, at the dizzy heights of the school Christmas fair.

“Next came the country markets and from there some shops and delis.”

The couple are now selling the dressing in a number of outlets and country markets.

Pippa said: “I’ve been working with Food NW who believe I have something larger retailers will be interested in. The Good Food Show approached me a couple of weeks ago for their new programme that they are launching called ‘The Big Adventure’.”

Pippa will be demonstrating the dressing to Sky viewers on the programme, which will be aired the week commencing Monday, November 8.
