A MUM is bringing a new brand of antenatal class to Chester, inspired by her own experience of childbirth.

Jennie Stevenson, of Dalecroft, Hapsford, will launch her first term of Lazy Daisy antenatal classes on Sunday.

Jennie – mum to Edita, three, and 23-week-old Mort – was inspired to train as a Lazy Daisy teacher after attending sessions in Warrington while expecting Mort.

The 35-year-old, whose first birth had proved a stressful experience, said: “I loved the weekly classes and really valued the time to myself to concentrate on my pregnancy.

“As other second – or more – time mums will know, you’re so busy rushing about looking after your first child that you barely get any time to think about the fact that you’re pregnant again, so it was wonderful to spend some time relaxing and bonding with the new baby.”

Lazy Daisy, founded in Ipswich in 2004, combines traditional antenatal teaching with movement, breathing and relaxation techniques.

Learning through movement helps build ‘muscle memory’, meaning actions becomes instinctive and are easily accessed during labour.

The classes aim to help mums-to-be feel more relaxed during pregnancy and more confident during labour and birth.

Jennie found her second birth a more relaxing experience – spending the early hours of the labour in the park with her family.

Lazy Daisy sessions start on Sunday, January 8, at Total Fitness Chester on Liverpool Road, with a second term starting at the end of February.

A six-week term costs £40.
