Motorists are facing lengthy delays after at least four cars collided on the M56.

On Monday morning (February 3) emergency services were called to the M56 eastbound between J14 A5117 at Hapsford and J12 of A557 in Runcorn after a multiple car pile-up.

Police have said it is ‘too early to say’ whether anyone has been seriously injured in the collision, thought to involve as many as five cars.

Motorists are facing delays of up to 50 minutes as traffic tails back while police remain at the scene.

Traffic is thought to be at a standstill in Frodsham and Helsby as motorists attempt to find alternative routes to avoid the accident.
