AN MP is joining residents in their campaign to stop a proposed recycling plant.

Winsford MP Stephen O'Brien has written to Cheshire County Council on behalf of his constituents regarding the scheme at Wood-ford Park, which residents claim is too close to schools and houses and the Winsford Neuromuscular Centre.

Mr O'Brien said: 'I have met a number of constituents who raised concerns about the site for the proposed recycling facility at Woodford Park - concerns which I share.

'A 17-bay facility as proposed would be totally unsuitable for this site, especially bearing in mind the considerable increase in vehicle movements along the road and its close proximity to Hebden Green and Wood-ford Lodge schools.

'It is also very close to the Neuromuscular Centre and the new police HQ, so the concerns raised about road and pedestrian safety are completely understandable.'

The scheme was approved by Vale Royal's Tory and Lib-Dem controlled council, but Conservative Mr O'Brien said: 'We have to regard the impact on the quality of life for local residents. I believe this is the wrong site for this facility and the council should look again for a more suitable location. I stand four square with my constituents who are campaigning against this recycling facility.'

Earlier this month, borough councillors agreed to sell the Woodford Park land to Cheshire County Council, providing planning permission is approved. Action group Woodford Against the Site Tipping facility for the Environment says it will continue to fight the plans.
