HALTON MP Derek Twigg has thrown his weight behind the West Bank Community Forum after a youth cafe project proved to be the panacea for addressing anti-social problems in the area.

Mr Twigg visited the headquarters in Parsonage Road, West Bank to look at the progress Pamela Wallace and her team have made as the community embarked on a clean-up operation.

Cheshire Fire Service, which has been working in partnership with West Bank's Kitchen Invaders, invited The Prince's Trust to help improve allotments and communal land used by the community and now the cafe boosts a tidy landscaped garden.

People aged 16-25 took part in a joint programme between Cheshire Fire Service and The Prince's Trust to gain employment skills by transforming the garden over a 12-day period.

The team managed to raise £800 by bag-packing at Morrisons supermarket and carrying out a collection at Widnes indoor market, which generated the necessary funds to buy the materials needed to complete the garden's look.

Some went on a first aid course and work experience placements.

A host of young people from the cafe attended the event as well as members of the Community Forum, Cheshire Fire Service, West Bank School's headmaster Kevin Reed and representatives from The Prince's Trust.
