CHESTER MP Stephen Mosley is concerned that residents living close to the city centre could be moved to a mainly rural constituency called ‘Winsford’.

The Tory member, who was responding to a Boundary Commission report, is delighted the City of Chester constituency will remain intact because other areas are being dismembered like Ellesmere Port and Neston.

But he is unhappy at plans to remove the old Boughton Heath and Vicars Cross Ward from Chester by adding it to ‘Winsford’ constituency – the successor to Eddisbury.

Mr Mosley said: “I welcome the fact that Chester will have its own parliamentary constituency at the next General Election, but understand that people living so close to the city centre may find it unusual to be moved out of Chester to a predominately rural Winsford constituency.

“I intend to speak at the public consultation next month and put the case that areas like Vicars Cross, Huntington, Dodleston and Boughton Heath should stay in the Chester constituency.”

The Boundary Review also proposes moving Christleton, Littleton and Guilden Sutton from the City of Chester constituency to Winsford.

In addition, the suggestion is to add Mickle Trafford, Barrow and Elton to Chester from the current Ellesmere Port constituency along with the Ledsham and Willaston ward and the Groves and Whitby ward.

The review suggests reducing the number of MPs from 650 to 600, saving £12 million a year. Redrawing the boundaries aims to give everyone’s vote a more equal weight.

There will be a public consultation on the proposed changes with a final decision to be made by parliament in Autumn 2013. All existing constituencies remain in place until the 2015 General Election.
