A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a road accident on the outskirts of Chester.

Police responded to a report of a motorbike having left the carriageway after exiting Junction 12 of the M53 as he was coming on to the A56, approaching the Hoole roundabout.

There were no other vehicles involved in the collision, which happened at about 6.40pm on Thursday.

The 51-year-old motorbike rider, from Upton, Chester, was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital with head and spinal injuries but was confirmed dead at 4am the following day.

The deceased’s next-of-kin have been informed. It is believed the man was returning home from work on his black Triumph Sprint motorbike when the accident happened.

Police closed part of the road at the time of the incident to allow an accident investigation to be carried out and it was reopened at about 10pm.
