A CREWE woman says she has been put off recycling after her silver wheelie bin wasn't emptied for six weeks.

Mother-of-four Nicola Thomson, 29, of Ford Lane, says her efforts to recycle household waste have been thwarted by the refuse collectors' failure to empty her bin.

She claims phone calls made to the borough council's Direct Services department were wasted and, as a result, she was unable to recycle her rubbish.

She said: 'Having four kids means a lot of household rubbish and I'm keen on recycling. Having the bin so full for so long meant I was unable to do so.

'The council need to get a grip, review the system and allow a weekly collection because it's getting so people don't want to recycle.'

However, the borough council's Direct Services manager Ron Clarke has denied the failure to empty Mrs Thomson's recycling bin is through any fault on their part.

He said: 'We get very few cases to this extent. Ford Lane is not usually a problem and our response was actually quite quick.

'We had one call logged from Mrs Thomson and her bin was emptied two working days later. The matter has been quickly resolved.'
