THE return of a Saltney supermarket is drawing nearer as Morrisons has announced it is to open on the August Bank Holiday.

The superstore, which once had a site on River Lane before it closed in October 2005, is to open its doors at a new purpose-built area on the High Street at 9am on August 30.

About 250 jobs are expected to be created at the new chain, which will include a new service station and a car park.

The new store’s general manager, Leslie (Les) Williams, is looking forward to the store’s opening.

His career with Morrisons began 11 years ago and he has been store general manager in two other Morrisons stores in Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Wellington.

He said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be taking up this position and offering shoppers in Saltney an excellent supermarket and superb product range, in a great location.

“Saltney deserves a fresh new supermarket and I am looking forward to serving the local community.

“Whether shopping at our Market Street fresh food counters, or visiting our customer cafe and award-winning wines and spirits department, our customers can always expect a friendly, personal service.”
