Morrisons is slashing the price of petrol to less than £1 a litre... but there’s a catch.
From today (Monday, November 21) customers spending more than £50 in store will be able to fill up with unleaded for as little as 99.9p a litre.
It’s a 10p cut in price, with diesel drivers also able to take advantage of the promotion, paying just over £1.
It’s the first time since the Brexit vote that the cost of fuel has dropped this low, and begs the question whether other supermarkets will follow suit.
Roger Fogg, services director for Morrisons, says the offer will see forecourts ‘turn the clock back’ to the start of the year when prices were lower.
Available until December 3 in the Chester and Ellesmere Port stores, it coincides with Black Friday sales week and is designed to help out shoppers in the run-up to Christmas.
Mr Fogg said: “With Christmas around the corner, our customers tell us they very much welcome our help in reducing the cost of their fuel. That's why we are turning the clock back to the start of this year when petrol prices were typically below £1 a litre.”
It’s the third time in a week that the supermarket chain has cut the price of fuel following a steady increase over the past few months after the Brexit vote caused the value of the pound to drop.
Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s too cut their prices last week by 3p a litre, much to the delight of many motorists.
