A YOUNG man recuperating after being badly injured in a crash with a lorry has been dealt a second blow; the loss of his new car.

Damien Thornton's parked car was shunted on to the pavement and written off in Malpas overnight last Tuesday - and there were no witnesses.

Damien parked his metallic purple W-reg Fiesta Sports in the High Street at 8.30pm.

He returned the next morning to find it wrecked.

'It's sickening,' said Damien, who is recovering from injuries he sustained when his car collided with a lorry near Tarporley last October.

Damien, who lives in Whitchurch, was in intensive care on a ventilator for a long time and underwent several operations.

His mother Gilda, a tutor at North Shropshire College, said of last week's accident: 'He is absolutely devastated that someone has done this and walked away.

'He has had so much to get over in the last six months. It's so cruel that this has happened to him.

'He has been to hell and back, and is about to have a seventh operation, this time on his knee.'

The car, worth £4,000, was only insured third party. Unless a witness comes forward to identify the culprit, Damien stands to get nothing for the wreckage - and he probably will have to pay for it to be towed away!

As part of Damien's recuperation, he has to do a lot of walking, and regularly drives to the Peckforton Hills for the fresh air and open space.

Now without a car, he can't get there.

Anyone with information about the car shunt is asked to telephone Whit-church Police on 08457 444888.
