MORE than £4,000 was raised for local charities at the 20th annual Tarporley Carnival.

Despite a rain-soaked summer, the sun shone on this year’s fun-filled event which was organised jointly by The Rotary Club of Tarporley and Tarporley and District Round Table.

The Olympic-themed ‘Going for Gold’ event started with the carnival’s biggest ever parade through Tarporley High Street.

It was led by Chester Karamba Samba Band and included spectacular floats from local schools, groups and organisations.

Following the crowning of the Tarporley Queen – Keira Savage – award-winning ladies choir The Decibellas hit the stage.

Hartford School of Gymnastics then put on an impressive display before performances from Tarporley Primary School Choir, Pointe Works School of Ballet, Emma O’Han’s School of Irish Dance, Tarporley High School Swing Band and Nantwich Stage Coach.

The day was capped by a set by village rock band Between Echoes, comprising Year 10 pupils from Tarporley High School.

Carnival chairman Peter Elvin said: “This is the first year Tarporley Carnival has featured a stage and more of a festival atmosphere and I’d like to thank all the members of Round Table and Rotary, as well as the many other volunteers, who worked so hard to make this afternoon possible.

“Our aim was to provide a great platform for the wealth of local talent in Tarporley to show what they can do.

“They have helped us raise more than £4,000 for local charities whilst having some fun. The smiles from the performers and the crowd say it all.”
