THE stage is set for a Flintshire writer’s path to success.

Sian Williams, of Mold, has had her first one-act play chosen for a reading by Chester Theatre Club as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

Now she has been signed up for a 10-day run at the Edinburgh Fringe festival this August.

Sian wrote the play, titled The Writer’s Group, in response to her experiences starting out at a new writer and takes a comedic look at plagiarism.

Sian, a former nurse and jazz singer, took up writing five years ago and has been involved with the annual Daniel Owen Festival in Mold as well as publishing a children’s book, Arabella’s Picnic, last year.

She was thrilled to be selected for a reading by Chester Theatre Club, which is encouraging new writers as part of its 50th anniversary programme.

But when the opportunity to take the play to Edinburgh presented itself, Sian jumped at the chance, although the play still has not been fully cast!

The Writer’s Group has just had a first read through with professional actors in the London Fringe through the new writing project, ScriptTank. On the back of this successful reading, Sian has just secured Ben Rufus Green, BBC comedy writer, actor and rising star for the part of Phil.

Alison Knott, chairman of directors for Chester Little Theatre, said: “We are very pleased to be in a position to help emerging and established playwrights develop their scripts via our rehearsed play reading scheme.

“The scheme has unearthed a goldmine of local writing talent. We wish Sian all the best for her Edinburgh run.”

The script reading will take place on Tuesday, April 2, at Chester Little Theatre, Gloucester Street, Newtown, from 7pm.
