UP TO 150 jobs have been secured after a Mid Cheshire company won a major work contract with the Ministry of Defence.
Byley-based CV Buchan Ltd will supply bathroom pods, which are concrete pre-made facilities, for accommodation for the Ministry of Defence in Scotland.
To help facilitate the order, about 30 jobs from the firm's Gadbrook Park site will be moved to the Kings Lane site in Byley, where the pods are to be made.
A spokesperson for Buchan said: 'We have just won a major order from the Ministry of Defence and the Byley site will be producing them.
'We will be consolidating our operations, with 30 office workers moving from Gadbrook park, and we will not be expanding but rationalising our space to help facilitate the order and hopefully it will be more environmentally friendly as a result.'
Buchan was expected to be given the go-ahead at Vale Royal Borough Council's planning committee last night (Tuesday) to use some of its land as storage space for the pods.
In a report to the planning committee, the company says the order will make a big difference to its operations.
It said: 'We are currently in the process of relocating our head office operation to a new purpose-built office on the site, which will become our flagship 'centre of excellence'.
'We have been forced into seeking new markets, as some of our traditional product ranges are no longer in demand, and we have recently carried out a review to ensure that our capability to design, manufacture, store and deliver is balanced.
'Up most in our review is the need to try and safeguard the employment of up to 150 people, mostly from the Northwich/Winsford area.
'We have just received a major order for the supply of bathroom pods to the MOD and our prospects in this general area are good. However, the products are much more volumetric than previously, thus meaning we need greater storage capacity for this and our existing products.'
The application had been recommended for approval at the planning meeting.
