A MISSING man whose car was found abandoned at a popular beauty spot was found safe and well on Tuesday after a two-day search.

Fears were growing for 33-year-old Stephen Roberts, from Saltney, after his car was found at the Ponderosa café at the top of the Horseshoe Pass, near Llangollen, at the weekend.

A search involving police, search teams and rescue dogs was launched on Saturday night, but Mr Roberts was found ‘safe and well’ late on Monday.

In an attempt to trace their friend, more than 100 people joined a group on networking website Facebook called ‘Help Find Steve Roberts’, and news of him turning up safe went online at about midnight.

Adam Dandy wrote: “Steve has been found safe and well. Thanks for all your support!”

And his brother Paul Roberts added: “You guys are all amazing...Please accept my humble thanks for your support over the past day...he is safe and we hope to get him back on his feet ASAP.”

A police spokesperson said on Tuesday: “North Wales Police can confirm that Stephen Roberts was found safe and well in the Cheshire area last night.”

Searches involving police officers, the Search and Rescue Dog Association and North East Wales Search and Rescue went on throughout Saturday night, Sunday and Monday before Mr Roberts was found.

It is understood he left his parents’ house in Christleton, Chester, on Saturday morning and the alarm was raised when he failed to return home as expected later the same day.
