An American man who had gone missing in Manchester has been found.

The disappearance of Nick Dugan, 30, prompted a desperate plea from his father in the United States who had not heard from his son since he landed at Manchester Airport on Thursday. He was understood to have taken a train to Crewe.

Dad Boyd Dugan claimed police in the States and Manchester had refused to help him because Nick was not a minor or in need of medication.

Yet within hours of the Chronicle's sister paper, the Manchester Evening News, publishing an appeal, Boyd was inundated with dozens of emails with information about Nick’s whereabouts.

Boyd, from Iowa, said: “Thanks to M.E.N. I have received lots of email support and my son has been located.

“We had no help from law enforcement but we are relieved to know where Nick is.”

Nick flew to the UK to embark on a ‘dream trip’ to Europe having never travelled alone before.

He sent a text to his twin brother, Matthew, when he first landed but had not been heard from since.
