A TODDLER had to be calmed by firefighters when she got her thumb trapped in a plastic bucket.

Katie Scott, two, was playing with a toy plastic mop bucket when she put her thumb in the compartment where the mop is supposed to be wrung out.

Her mum Louise, of Cherry Road, Boughton, Chester, said: 'We tried every-thing to get it off. We phoned the fire brigade to ask advice and they said 'it's not a problem, we're on our way'.

'She was upset, her thumb was swelling and hurting. They were really good. She was pleased when they turned up. She loves Fireman Sam at the moment.'

Louise, an advertising representative, added: 'They cut it off - not her thumb! - but the plastic bucket. They tried soapy water and we tried freezing it but it wouldn't come off because her thumb was swollen.'

Louise's mum Sue, of Cranleigh Crescent off Saughall Road, suggested calling the fire brigade in the incident, which happened at about 12.45pm on Sunday.

Almost 37 years ago Louise's cousin Jeanette, then 18 months and living in Melrose Avenue, Vicars Cross, sat inside a metal mop bucket and had to be cut out by firefighters. Jeanette's picture and story also featured in The Chronicle.
