MIDNIGHT Mass will take place at midnight in Chester, despite a national report that says drunks are disrupting services.

A report by The Tablet, a Catholic weekly magazine, found priests were concerned for the safety of their parishioners are holding services as early as 6pm on Christmas Eve.

Father Paul Shaw of St Werburgh’s Catholic Church said: “I will be having a Midnight Mass at midnight and I am looking forward to it.”

Father Paul reinstated the Midnight Mass at St Werburgh’s last Christmas.

Services at St Werburgh’s on Christmas Eve include a children’s service at 6pm, Vigil at 8.30pm, Christmas carols at 11.30pm and Midnight Mass at midnight.

Christmas Eve services at Chester Cathedral are a service of nine lessons and carols at 3.30pm, a crib service at 5.30pm and the First Communion of Christmas at 11.30pm.
