A GREAT Sutton teenager pounded the streets to raise £308 for a children's hospice.

Michael Powell, 19, decided he needed a challenge so he took part in the Adidas Half Marathon at Sefton Park back in March.

With an aim to raise as much money as possible for Claire House hospice in Wirral, he approached colleagues at Stanley Staff in Ellesmere Port, as well as his friends and family for sponsorship.

Before being able to run the half marathon, Michael had to undergo a vigorous physical training programme six months beforehand.

He was encouraged by a 21-year-old experience trainer, who Michael managed to beat by four minutes at the finishing line, completing the run in one hour, 46 minutes and 40 seconds.

Michael said: 'The whole event was most enjoyable and worthwhile.

'It was ideal weather conditions with a nice dry day. Even though I acquired a few blisters, the pain was worthwhile as I've raised £308 for Claire House. Many thanks to all those people who sponsored me.'
