WAR veterans are being asked to voice their views on the future development of their memorial hall in Northwich.

Members of all the Royal British Legion clubs in Vale Royal are being asked what facilities they want in their new hall when the old one is knocked down.

Vale Royal Borough Council announced last year that the memorial hall would be replaced by a new, purpose-built cultural centre as part of the wide-ranging Northwich Vision project.

Following the announcement of the chosen developer for the Vision last week, North-wich Royal British Legion Club members who fought to save their old hall have accepted it will be knocked down.

Reg Hardingham, treasurer of the Northwich branch, is writing to all legion branches in Vale Royal this week to ask for views on the new facility.

Reg said: 'I am asking for feedback on what they feel the building should be replaced with, what should we be expecting in regard to conditions and facilities.

'I think the facilities can certainly be improved. One of the things that has annoyed us for many years is that we have to pay to hire the memorial hall.

'There is still a lot of ill feeling about the hall being knocked down when you remember what it was put up for in the first place.'
