LOCAL runners who crossed the line the quickest were presented with prizes at an award ceremony after the race.

With a little help from his three-year-old son Tom, Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans presented the prizes to winners at the Helsby Sport and Community Centre after the last runner crossed the finish line.

The Conservative MP even shook hands with Gordon Brown, a runner who took part in the race, before presenting Helsby Running Club members, Adair Broughton, 37 and Jane Ashbrook, 35, with the prizes for the first local runners to cross the line.

Adair Broughton ran his personal best at one hour and 19 minutes, after four years of running the 13.1 mile race.

Adair said: “The race is really well organised. There were quite a lot of people cheering along the way, the weather was perfect, and it was quite still with no wind.”

Mother-of-one Jane a physiotherapist from Hillfield, Frodsham, who ran the race in one hour 32 minutes, said: “It was a lot slower than I would like, but I am still quite pleased. There was a lot of good support all the way around.”

And Cheshire runners scooped an extra prize for team effort, which went to the members of the Chester Triathlon Club, who had the largest turnout on the day.
