MORE than 100 residents objected to the new Travellers site in Dunham-On-The-Hill fearing it would lead to a ‘permanent site’.

Councillors have said the site is merely a temporary option that will see the Travellers moved on when an alternative is found.

The new site, on Hillcrest, Chester Road, will have three pitches which will each accommodate:

A mobile home

Touring caravan

Gardens

Utility dayroom

Two parking spaces

In a letter to The Chronicle, Chairman of Dunham-on-the-Hill and Hapsford Parish Council, Andy Jones, said that they would be ‘taking action to expose the incompetence in the Chester planning office’.

He wrote: “For a number of years the parish council have had concerns regarding the inability of the planning officers in Chester to effectively deal with planning applications from the Gypsy and Traveller community, and will be taking further action to expose errors, omissions and incompetence in the office.”

A spokesperson for the council defended the decision saying: “We are still very much focused on making every effort to identify sites and complete them within the next three years.”
