ANYONE concerned about an NHS shake-up involving closer working between the Countess of Chester and Arrowe Park hospitals is invited to a public meeting next Thursday.

There are plans to relocate vascular surgery and complex breast cancer cases from Arrowe Park to the Countess while hundreds of urology inpatients currently treated in Chester would go to the Wirral hospital instead.

Many doctors object to the changes which NHS bosses say will create larger teams and provide better treatment.

Sam Oxford, of Cheshire West Against the Cuts, said: “We’re obviously concerned about the job losses, the cost of the merger, the increased waiting times, as well as the wider implications of the possible closure of the A&E at Arrowe Park due to the fact that the hospital would not be able to perform any major surgery as there will not be a vascular surgeon available to repair any blood vessel damage, and the consequences of this – increased pressure on the A&E at Chester.”

The meeting takes place at Arrowe Park Hotel on Thursday, September 22, at 7.15pm.
