CUSTOMERS at a bingo club in Chester have been putting their cookery skills to the test, in a bid to raise money for Mecca’s chosen charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Colleagues and customers at Mecca Bingo reverted back to traditional ways of fundraising, when they held a homemade cake sale at the club at Brookdale Place.

The money raised from the sale means the club is only £50 short of reaching its fundraising target set for this year of £2,000.

Laura Boddy, team leader at the club, said: “All the team here feels passionately about doing our bit to help fundraise for such a worthy cause.

“I was really impressed by the cake-making skills from our members; I think Delia Smith would be proud.”

Marie Curie Cancer Care community fundraiser Siobhan Heffernan said: “It’s admirable to see how seriously all the Mecca Bingo team members and customers have taken trying to reach their fundraising target for this year. It’s also great to see all the team working together for a common goal. I’m delighted to announce that Mecca Bingo will continue to support Marie Curie Cancer Care throughout 2011. Every £20 they’ve raised will provide an hour of nursing care for terminally ill people.”

Mecca Bingo team members and customers are helping to raise £200,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care throughout 2010, which would fund 10,000 hours of home nursing care.
