MOST people go to hospital wards to visit a loved one – but for one couple a visit to the Countess of Chester led to marriage.
Cara Hegarty, 26, met her husband Philip McPartland, 28, a HGV driver, when she visited her mother who was recovering from a hip operation.
She said: ‘We met four years ago, Phil was in a car crash in Broughton. He broke his left leg, which needed a metal bolt, and fractured his neck. The car was a complete write-off.
‘He lived in Runcorn with his parents at the time. I was visiting my mum who was having an operation and they were in the same ward.’
‘I felt sorry for him and bought him a box of maltesers. When he came out of hospital we kept in touch, swapped mobile numbers, went out on a few dates.
The couple, of Connah’s Quay, were married in July at St Ethelwood’s Church, Shotton.
A reception was held for their guests at St David’s Park Hotel, Ewloe. Cara and Philip honeymooned in Belek, Turkey.
Cara Hegarty is the daughter of Lynn and Stephen Hegarty and Philip McPartland is the son of Angela and James McPartland.
