Cyclists descended on Chester early on Sunday morning (August 9) for the first ever Ride Above Sportive in the city.

Former World Champion and Tour de France Green Jersey winner Mark Cavendish was at the start on Eastgate Street to wave off the riders as they tackled one of the three available routes from Chester to North Wales and back.

The routes were the extremist route of 185km, the purist 120km and the enthusiast 75km and the sprint cyclist himself joined the middle group.

Spectators tweeted selfies with the man himself or photographs of the cyclists on the route.
