MANCHESTER United striker Michael Owen is hoping to back a winner by leasing a racehorse to Chester FC.

The club is run by supporters group City Fans United and its community mutual status means that the club is run for the benefit of the local community.

Michael, together with Andrew Black of Manor House Stables, were keen to offer their support and for Chester FC to progress up the league ‘back to where they belong’.

He has close links to what he refers to as his local team as his brother-in-law and father both played for the club.

The Chester FC Racing Club has 50 members and they have leased Marine Boy, whose jockey will be wearing the blue and white stripes on Friday at the Chester May Festival.

To celebrate the team’s recent promotion, Michael has asked Chester FC manager Neil Young to present the trophy for the Lily Agnes Stakes, the first race on the card, which is sponsored by Manor House Stables.

Racing manager of Chester FC Racing Club Mike Foster said: “It is great that Manor House stables are supporting sport in the local area and Michael Owen has taken a keen interest in the community club.

“Marine Boy ran at group level earlier in his career and is in great form at home. The horse is bound to get the biggest cheer of the day down at the Roodee.”
